If you're traveling from any town that is north of Bendigo to Melbourne, you need to make a reservation and purchase a bus or train ticket, as opposed to using a Myki card. You can do this at your local station or ticket agency. If your town does not have a station or local agency, or if you need to make your reservation out of office hours, then simply telephone Public Transport Victoria (PTV) on 1800 800 007. Once you have made your reservation and paid for your ticket (over the telephone), you will be given a reference number to use as your ticket. Write this number down, as you will need to travel with this number. Once you arrive in Melbourne, you will need to go and exchange your reference number for a proper ticket, which the Customer Service Officer at the ticket box will do for you. You can then use this ticket to access your free tram travel whilst in Melbourne (i.e., in Zone 1 and 2, where most of the hospitals are).
Free Tram Travel The following free tram travel conditions apply:
We note that conditions of free tram travel may change, so we recommend that you confirm the 'Free Tram Policy' with the Customer Service Team at Southern Cross Station (upon your arrival), to ensure that you are eligible for free tram travel whilst in Melbourne. Melbourne Medical Companions If you do not feel confident in using the tram system on your own, then please feel free to telephone Travellers Aid Australia, who can allocate a Melbourne Medical Companion to assist you throughout your stay in Melbourne. Telephone 1300 700 399 at least 1-2 working days in advance for this free service. |
