The bus stop project at Lake Charm is a good example of how small changes can make a big difference for small communities.

The Lake Charm / Mystic Park townships are located on and nearby the Murray Valley Highway between Swan Hill and Kerang.  The highway has a number of transport services, including interstate buses, which provide a vital link for the travelling public.

Prior to the beginning of the Southern Mallee Transport Connections Partnership, none of these buses were commissioned to stop, unable to either pick up or set down passengers.  This created widespread transport disadvantage for these two small communities, and resulted in the need to hire a taxi to come out from Kerang in order to travel from Lake Charm to Kerang (very often behind the bus) to an approved bus stop.

After negotiations with the Department of Transport, and V-Line, it was agreed to establish a bus stop at Lake Charm and to allow a number of buses to pick up and set down at this location.  Above is a photo of locals standing at the new bus stop.

This project has proven to be an outstanding success for the Lake Charm and Mystic Park communities, and has provided vital access for the many people living in this part of rural Victoria.

Please note that some of the bus services that now stop at Lake Charm require a booking, whilst others are considered a ‘flag down’ service.
