The Southern Mallee Transport Connections Partnership (SMTCP) is currently working on the following projects.
Charlton The SMTCP has surveyed the Charlton community, in order to ascertain what transport needs they have. The survey results have been collated and will be published in the relevant webpage soon. For more informtion, please click on the Transport - Buloke tab at the left hand side of this website, and click on the Charlton tab.
G-NETS Funding The Partnership is currently seeking funding for the G-NETS project, once its initial funding period ends in September, 2009. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, then please refer to the G-NETS donations page.
Kerang to Echuca Bus Service The SMTCP has surveyed the Kerang, Murrabit, Barham and Koondrook communities, in order to ascertain if people need to travel to Echuca. The survey revealed widespread support for a bus link to Echuca, and the SMTCP has begun work on developing a pilot transport option. For more information, please click on the Transport - Gannawarra tab, located on the left hand side of this website, and click into the Kerang to Echuca tab.
Marketing The Partnership is scoping the need for marketing existing commercial taxi / hire car services in Cohuna, Donald, Koondrook / Barham and Swan Hill, in order ensure ongoing community use of these important transport services.
Medical Referral Kit The SMTCP is currently scoping the development of a medical referral kit, to assist people who need to travel long distances for medical appointments.
Partnership Evaluation The SMTCP plans to undertake a partnership evaluation in late 2009, in order to ensure that the Southern Mallee Transport Connections Partnership remains inclusive and effective across the southern mallee.
Swan Hill Car Pool The SMTCP has formed a partnership with the Swan Hill Community House, in order to develop a car poolling system in Swan Hill, for shared transport to Melbourne. Please refer to the Swan Hill Car Pool tab for further details.
Taxi/Hire Care Licensing The SMTCP has developed two strategies which could effectively provide local transport solutions for very small towns across Victoria. These strategies encompass changes to the taxi & hire car policy, and the partnership is currently holding discussions with relevant departments and politicians.
V/Line Project The SMTCP is currrently developing a V/Line Project, which would provide assistance for people to travel on the V/Line train from Swan Hill to Melbourne.
